Emthunzini director / senior consultant – John Roux

I am an experienced Organisation Development Consultant, Evaluator, Trainer, and Writer of development sector publications. I have worked primarily in the non-profit sector for 25 years and in the local government sector for 12 years. I am one of three original EMTHUNZINI consultants and currently director / senior consultant. I am also a member of Ordbildarna, a Swedish international development consultancy, and through Ordbildarna, a senior associate consultant of SIPU International (Swedish Institute for Public Administration) I have worked on many SIPU projects over 12 years, mainly for Local Government, doing training, interactive materials development, writing  and editing. My experience also includes working with large corporate organisations for four years as a consultant with ODISA (Organisation Development Institute of SA), and prior to that, four years with the Urban Foundation. My main areas of work are

  • Evaluations of Organisations, Programs, Projects and Partnerships
  • Organisation Development Facilitation
  • Strategic Review and Planning Facilitation
  • Management and Leadership Development
  • Training of Trainers and Development Facilitators
  • Teambuilding
  • Results based Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
  • Performance Management
  • Materials Development – Writing and editing handbooks, case studies, booklets and brochure.

In the past decade I have also worked increasingly in the public sector, mainly on municipal development and service improvement programs, undertaken by Swedish development organizations such as SIPU International and SKL International (the Development Agency of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR).

Companies committed to development

Cooperation and service are the true principles of economic life

I am also open to working with organisations in the private sector that are genuinely committed to human, organizational and social development and environmental responsibility. Though I have focused on the non-profit and public sectors, I recognise that there are many individuals and some organizations in the private sector that value and wish to act according to human and sustainable development principles, and that have embraced a triple bottom-line approach which aims to balance economic, social and environmental concerns and results.

I have experience in corporate consulting and training (with ODISA – Organisation Development Institute of SA) and in working with and writing on sustainable development issues and programs, for example, as monitor and facilitator of the City of Cape Town – City of Aachen LA 21 Partnership Program for seven years.
